Earthquakes in Denmark
Description: They do exist and they do have some connection to the regional geological structures. Within the last two decades the instrument sensitivity to small earthquakes has been much improved in Denmark. Two to ten earthquakes are recorded each year of magnitudes 1.5 to 4.5.

About seismology
Description: Seismology is the science of earthquakes. GEUS records earthquakes from all over the world on seismographs in Denmark and Greenland and our seismic stations are part of a world wide network.

Nuclear tests
Description: Seismology is an important tool in disarmament politics as nuclear test explosions in many cases can be detected and discerned from earthquakes.

Seismology - Earthquakes
Description: GEUS is responsible for maintaining a seismic service to monitor seismic activity in Denmark Greenland and the Faeroe Islands.

How big is an Earthquake?
Description: We can describe this in two different ways - The magnitude on the Richter scale - The intensity on the Modified Mercalli scale is used.
